Colchester County High School for Girls

A Selective Girls' Grammar School with Academy Status

We were delighted to hear that we are positioned top of the Secondary School League Tables in Essex.  In the National Secondary School League Tables 2011, Best Secondary School Results, we were positioned 3rd in the Country.

This is an amazing achievement.   We thank our Governors for their commitment to the school, parents for their support, students for their hard work and staff for dedication and passion for education.

It is my great privilege as the Head Teacher of the Colchester County High School for Girls to warmly welcome you to our website.
CCHS is a vibrant and happy school providing an exciting variety of opportunities for girls to develop their talents, to enjoy themselves and to flourish as individuals. We really do provide a wonderful education.

The school was founded in 1909 to provide an exceptional education for girls and continues to combine tradition and innovation to fulfil that aim in the 21st Century.

Girls are encouraged to become independent learners who, academically, achieve extremely high results. They are also offered a wide range of extra curricular activities from fencing to Japanese and can choose from an extensive programme of educational trips and visits in Britain and abroad.

Our students have a thirst for knowledge and we are keen to develop and support learning for all students and staff. To this end, we have incorporated an iLab in our mSchool (Music, Mathematics and the Mind) which is a perfect catalyst for Creative and Critical Thinking. This subject is taught from Years 7-13, providing a dynamic and investigative approach for everything else we undertake.

Our teachers work incredibly hard to support all students and are always willing to give up a great deal of their time outside of the classroom to help individuals.

All girls benefit from our specialist status as a Science and Language College as well as our Independent State School Partnership.

CCHS provides a safe, secure and happy environment where our exceptionally bright and enthusiastic students can develop, take risks and emerge as confident young adults.
